The Work of AHS Students
Eagle's Eye
The Eagle's Eye is a product of Journalism II class in which students learn the fundamentals of producing a newspaper. These fundamentals include writing hard and soft news, feature stories, creating a variety of leads, meeting deadlines, conducting successful interviews, checking facts for accuracy, editing a news story, taking photographs, tracking down a lead and all its angles, and learning and using copyediting symbols. Adobe PageMaker, Adobe PhotoShop, and Microsoft Word are the software programs used in the class. While there will be some discussion of legal and ethical issues, classroom activities revolve largely around the production of the newspaper. The course is recommended for those who are capable of meeting deadlines and who have a serious interest in building their repertoire of writing skills. Journalism II and Independent Journalism build upon learned skills and students have a chance to become editors, write for a local newspaper, attend workshops, and complete layout.
Jewelry
Jewelry is a product of the Metalsmithing class, which is a course offered at AHS under the title "Ceramics/Metalsmithing". In the metalsmithing component of this class, students create small sculptures and metal jewelry. An emphasis is placed on design and craftsmanship and students are encouraged to try to solve 3-D design challenges. To see examples of the metalsmithing produced by students, click here.
Ms. Nygaard's Students
Pictures often speak a thousand words, therefore the art gallery you are about to see will speak for itself. Click here to see the amazing work of Mrs. Nygaard's students.
Multimedia
Students in Multimedia learn how to use a variety of computer software programs to create multimedia projects incorporating text, graphics, 3 Dimensional models, animation and sound. They explore various methods and techniques to create original artwork on the computer and learn how to organize all of these elements to create multimedia presentations that communicate ideas and information. In each semester, students use and improve their problem-solving skills to learn new software and increase their knowledge and skills. All students create a CD portfolio of their accomplishments.
